Day 2: Social Equality

Social Equality: Empowering marginalised groups

The disproportionate effects of economic downturns, climate change, social instability and conflict are always concentrated within marginalised groups. For decades, mainstream development discourse has acknowledged these effects but has forgotten the most effective way to overcome them; empowerment. Our panellists will address the importance of equipping these groups with the skills and opportunities required for them to make a change in their own lives, on their own terms, overcoming the dominant paradigm of top-down implementation, and rather allowing individuals and groups to control the process themselves.
